Kariba South Bank Hydropower Station

The Kariba South Bank Hydropower Station is located in the Kariba Gorge along the Zambezi River, which forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Situated approximately 40 kilometers upstream from the confluence of the Zambezi and Kafue Rivers, the hydropower station is about 290 kilometers from Harare by road. The water resources of Kariba are jointly managed by Zimbabwe and Zambia, with an annual net inflow of 40–42 billion cubic meters. Zimbabwe operates the Kariba South Bank Hydropower Station through ZESA Holdings, maintaining an installed capacity of 750 MW, which plays a critical role in the region’s energy supply.
